How the Wikidata checker works
Enter a site or a name
Type your site address or your organisation's name. For a site we read the name from your home page as a fallback, with one request.
Find the item
We search Wikidata for an item whose official website (P856) is your site, then search labels by name, and read the best match. At most 4 requests, cached for 30 days.
See what is missing
Description, inception, headquarters, official website, external identifiers, Wikipedia articles and logo, each with what to add and where.
We read Wikidata only. Google's Knowledge Graph is shown when Wikidata records its ID; we do not query Google, so a Knowledge Graph entity without that link is not shown.
Wikidata checker questions
How do I add my company to Wikidata?
First check the notability policy: Wikidata accepts an organisation that has a Wikipedia article, that serious public sources describe, or that another item needs. If yours qualifies, sign in on wikidata.org, create an item with your name and a neutral description, then add official website, inception, headquarters and identifiers, each with a source. Keep it factual; promotional items are deleted.
What does Wikidata's notability policy require?
At least one of three things: a link to a page on a Wikimedia project such as Wikipedia, being a clearly identifiable organisation that serious, publicly available sources describe, or being needed by another item. A company register entry or independent press coverage usually covers the second. A business known only from its own website usually does not qualify yet.
Does Wikidata help SEO and AI answers?
It helps machines know who you are. Google, Bing and AI assistants read Wikidata for facts about organisations and use it to tell apart names that look alike. An item with your official website, founding date, headquarters and profiles makes those facts easy to confirm. It is not a ranking factor on its own, and an item is never a guarantee of a knowledge panel.
Is the Wikidata item the same as a Google Knowledge Panel?
No. A knowledge panel is Google's own box, built from its Knowledge Graph, which draws on Wikidata among many sources. Many items record their Google Knowledge Graph ID (P2671), and the checker shows it when they do. You can claim a panel through Google, but you cannot create one directly.
Can I edit my own organisation's Wikidata item?
Yes, you may correct facts about your own organisation, as long as each statement is neutral and sourced. Your own website counts as a source for facts about yourself, such as your address. For anything that sounds like a claim, cite an independent source, and do not write a Wikipedia article about yourself.
Is this Wikidata checker free?
Yes, with no sign-up. getReport is funded by donations, not plans. The entity consistency checker compares the item with your pages and schema, and is free too.
